How to wrap flowers – Cone wrapped flowersYvette

There are so many ways to wrap flowers and each time I meet a new florist I learn there is yet another way.  Everyone seems to have their own sometimes quirky, way of doing it. Some florists make it look simple yet stunning other times awkward and still stunning and then sometimes it looks rushed and messy. The quality of the presentation of flowers is an important as the quality of the flowers in them self and so requires thought, care and attention. Here we will show you just one of the various wrapping styles ‘a cone wrap’. The cone wrap can be made well ahead of time and depending of the quality of paper can be used more than once.  We endeavour to show you more wrapping styles in blogs to follow…. Enjoy

Here’s what you will need:

  • Paper cutting scissors
  • Paper of your choice, the thicker the better
  • Doily – paper
  • Glue
  • Cello/Sticky Tape
  • Hole punch – single
  • Ribbon
  • Glass jar, plastic liner or plastic container

Choose the colour of paper and size doily you wish to use. Then cut the paper into a square shape, if it is rectangle.

then place the doily on the right side corner of the paper.

Turn the paper and doily upside down.  Roll the paper and doily, starting from the bottom corner where the doily is.  Roll the base tight and leave the top wide to create the cone shape.

Once you have rolled the paper to the end and you are happy with the cone shape, run a line of glue along the edge of paper shown above.

Wrap a piece of twine around the cone to ensure it does not move whilst drying, just be careful not to get glue on the twine as the twine needs to come off.

Once the glue is dry you may choose to add an extra doily, the final effect just depends on the look you are after.  If you want to add another doily simply layer it over the top.  It helps to disguise the seam of the paper that has been glued and makes the doily visual at the top of the cone  also.

Using a single hole punch make 2 holes on either side of the top of the cone.

Attach ribbon through the holes and tie to secure.

Use a recycled jar or plastic container to insert inside the base of the cone. I recommend using a recycled plastic freezer bag or something similar to line the inside first. Half fill the container with water ready for your flowers to be placed into.

Voila, your flower cone wrap is complete!!
