How to make a flower gift box

Ingredients

  • 2 bunches Chrysanthemum – glasshouse variety
  • Pearl headed pins – approx 40
  • 1/2 brick of Oasis floral foam
  • 1 metre of ribbon
  • 1 bottle top (can be a jar lid or pizza dividers are great!)
  • Glue
  • Plastic tray, dish or plate of your choice

Step 1 –  Choose a dish for your gift box to sit on. The dish can be a recycled plastic food tray or your finest china if you choose, you will be using glue however so keep this mind.  Find a bottle top or jar lid from your recycling bin.

Step 2 –  Attach the bottle top or jar lid to the centre of the dish using glue. We recommend Oasis brand floral adhesive, you can use any superglue.  Hot glue can be used but is only recommended on ceramic dishes or a solid plastic.

Step 3 – Soak the foam by immersing it in water for at least 30 seconds. Cut 1 oasis foam brick in 1/2 and place onto tray.  You may require more or less foam depending on the size dish you use.

Step 4 – Cut the blooms from the Chrysanthemum stems very short, approx 5cms and insert a pearl headed pin through the centre of the bloom from the top. The pearl pin head will be in the centre of the flower as pictured below

Step 8 –  Once the foam is completely covered take your chosen ribbon and slide it under the tray leaving even lengths on both ends.  Tie the ribbon into a simple 2 loop bow as you would tie your shoe laces.
