Indigo Homewares by Aboubakar Fofana – Hermon & HermonYvette

Hermon and Hermon

Last Tuesday I had the privilege of attending the launch of Indigo Homewares by Aboubakar Fofana thanks to Hermon & Hermon in Richmond. I expected to be impressed as I am with everything I see at Hermon & Hermon and impressed I was.

It was a great evening hosted by Barbara and John Hermon, held at their store in Richmond Victoria. The exquisite Indigo range was on display and I felt like a child unable to stop myself from touching the beautiful organic textiles. The textures were as appealing as the colour.

Neale Whitaker of Belle Magazine introduced and chatted with Aboubakar Fofana which is when my love for the products grew even deeper. Aboubakar Fofana shared with us the process for indigo dying in its traditional, sustainable art form. All aspects of it are done by hand, it’s a long process with starts with the indigo plant, indigenous cotton and fermenting the indigo whilst feeding it, Yes feeding it! Honey and bananas are favourites. I leant that the different shades of indigo created will create different emotions and Aboubakar Fofana has an understanding of these emotions when he is creating them. Aboubakar Fofana grew up in Mali and now lives Paris France.

Aboubakar Fofana’s cushions, throws, shawls and bedcovers are available at Hermon & Hermon now but only for a limited time http://www.hermonhermon.com.au/index.php
